Celebrating Culture and Awareness: Orissa Day & Prevention of Blindness Week

One commemorates the formation of a state, while the other commemorates the need to protect one of our most essential senses, i.e., vision.

Odisha Day: Honoring Heritage

Odisha Day is observed every year on April 1st to commemorate the formation of the state of Odisha in 1936. On this day, Odisha came into being as a separate province based on linguistic identity.

This day is a celebration of the state’s rich cultural heritage, including classical dances such as Odissi, music, handicraft, and food, to name a few. People celebrate this day throughout the state through parades, cultural events, etc.

Prevention of Blindness Week: Spreading Awareness

Prevention of Blindness Week is observed every year between April 1st to April 7th to raise awareness regarding eye health and how to prevent avoidable blindness. Millions of people around the world are victims of impaired vision, which can be prevented if proper care is taken at an appropriate time.

Organizations conduct free eye tests to raise awareness regarding common eye problems such as cataract, glaucoma, etc.

Why These Observances Matter

Both Odisha Day and Prevention of Blindness Week hold great importance in their own ways. One commemorates our heritage, while the other talks of taking care of our health and ourselves.
